This Course on “Expropriation of Real Properties” provides the legal process wherein the government or local government units (LGUs) acquire properties for public use, with just compensation to the property owner. The basis for expropriation in the Philippines can be found in the 1987 Constitution, which guarantees that private property shall not be taken for public use without just compensation (Article III, Section 9).

 In general, the participants will learn the legal framework and process of expropriation in the Philippines, including the role of the Local Government Code, requirements for just compensation, and the judicial procedure for acquiring private property for public use. They will also understand the laws governing specific expropriation scenarios, such as socialized housing and infrastructure projects.
